Has anyone had to work on the front end of a narrow c. mine is loose, meaning excessive gear play, any chance it can be shimmed? bearings seem to be tight enough just wonders all over and will lock coming out of a tight turn. i have adjusted the play out of the steering box but that only made the lock up worse. whjen running on the road the front wheels wonder but the steering arm on front end stays put. the manual i have talks about shims under the gear, how much has to be torn down to get to the shims and what are the odds that the gears are worn. any help would be very appriciated

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!

The front pedestal is 2 pieces, the upper gear housing and the lower support. There are shims between the 2 pieces. You should find a combination of steel and paper shims that are stagered. by removing these shims, you adjust gear backlash, to it minium backlash but not tight. Also make sure that the gear is tight on the spindle shaft. LOL Bob
