Had the dyno out today and decided to dyno the 220. When I engaged the PTO I got a clicking sound like when you try engage the PTO on say a D-17 but the gears haven't fully stopped turning yet. I stopped the engine and then started it with the PTO in gear and the PTO turned but when I started reving up it starting clicking again. Sound seemed to come from between the transmission and the flywheel. What should I look for?

Will the PTO "pull" a load ?? can the dyno make the engine work?? ...there are splines on the hollow input shaft that mate with the pressure plate hub........there is a splined coupler inside the 4-speed transmission housing.....there is a splined coupler on the PTO clutch input shaft too. The only thing I've ever seen fail is the 1000 rpm shaft getting snapped off on the rear of the tractor, and I always figured that was from a 540 pto extension and too sharp of a turn while using it.

This I the first time that I've tried the PTO and it will not pull any load. We had the tractor split to put in another engine and will have to split again because we have clutch slippage in 6th gear with the 25' cultivator. The clutch was very good but we forgot to check the flywheel for the correct machining. Could it be that the shaft did not engage into the pressure plate hub? The D-21 has a disengage lever that the 220 does not have. Is there coupler that doesn't get used in the 220? I don't think this is related but the PTO clutch brake doesn't stop the PTO from free wheeling.

The hollow shaft that mates with the pressure plate has to be OK for engagement. You should be able to see it from underneath with a flashlight. The fact that the PTO clutch creeps and the brake doesn't work makes me suspicous of the clutch condition itself. Better snap a pressure gauge on it (the valve?) to verify pressures and go from there......was the lift arm housing ever removed?? 210-220's don't have a sliding disconnect like a D21, but a coupler nevertheless and it is one that might be bumped (snap ring)and pop out of gear like other AC models if the trans was ever split ??

Like the Dr said I think I put a gauge on it since they made it so easy to do. Two ports on the rear housing right side one is appication pressure for the clutch, the other is for the brake,, I think?

The rear housing was not taken off and the transmission was not split since I've had the tractor. I have good hydraulic pressure on the remotes. I have a guage to check the pressures at the PTO and will do that. Thanks.
