I know this won't impress you mid-west guys, but I was happy as a clam to get our newest addition home. She's a slightly used F2, that has been well maintained, and was used last season. I've been trying to find a small combine in good shape that can handle our small fields of 5-10 acres, rotating oats, corn, buckwheat, etc. It's got a 4 row narrow corn, 4 row wide and 12 ft grain heads.  Here she is with our 100+ year old Northern Spy apple tree behind her, that still gives us 80+ gallons cider each year.  I'm going to be asking for some help on this one, but hopefully I can wade through the manual before the oats come in, which is not too far away. Just for fun, here is a picute of our pond taken this spring. The brown field in the back is a 12 acre field where I am tried to go no-till directly into an old hayfield. With a rainbow like that in the field, I figured it had to be lucky. Sure enough, we finally got some rain today after over a month without a drop. I had some problems with nematodes and grubs with the corn, but I am learning. For next year I am preparing another field ahead of time with tiller radishes, crimson clover and rye. It is all a learning curve, but this combine will let me play with small acreages, and be able to do our own work without trying to find a custom combine.  |

| That's a great find. I keep trying to find a small unit similar to the old Case 600 but they all get picked up for the combine demolition derby. I've seen some good machines wasted at that event. My buddy actually just got a nice C2 that will be wrecked at the derby in a few weeks. So i might just look for a good pto pull-type combine. |

Is it too late to offer your buddy cash for his CII? Hate to see such a flagship combine as a CII get destroyed. | A.U. Good for you !! As time goes on I think there will be a big demand for combines of that size, even if your small scale operation does't work out you will never lose money on the F2 !! |

Lonn, Actually, I mis-wrote. It is an F, rather than an F2. Some of the manuals I had with it were for an F2, but it is a little older and is definitely an F. For a small operator like us, finding something small and versatile like this is getting harder and harder. I thought about a pull-behind, but then I would need a picker-sheller setup for corn, and most of the old New Idea units are rusted junk by now. With this, I can do just about any crop on the farm, and it fits through all the old hedgerow gates. It's a different world out here in the East, where 150 acre farms with 5-10 acre fields are more common. Anyway, she is in good working shape, and intend to keep her that way. |

Too late now. It's already chopped up and welded up for the derby. He's a greenhouse operator and has no attachment to combines. I just need to try to snag a barn find before he does. It's a bit of a race these days. |
