Bought our B several months ago. Not knowing much of anything about AC. Came on here and got great advice, help and inspiration. I've seen some beautiful ACs on here. We bought the B because we need a small tractor and my only plans were to get it running to use. I saw posts where people on here had 2, 3, 15 AC tractors!! I thought WOW, why so many ACs! Now I'm orange crazy! Thanks to all you fellows I'm buying ANOTHER B this week... Thanks for making me spend all this money!  I'm going to use the best parts from both to get one running and then I'll start restoring the other one. Once I get the second one restored I'll start using it and restore the first one. *sigh*

I started out with one tractor, today I nearly have a complete line of A-C implements to go with the tractor and could almost start farming if I had some land and some money and parts to keep the machines going. Allis Chalmaholic is the greatest addiction you can have Got my wd45. Next on the list d17 iv then a CA then a b maybe a 170 to finish it off. Welcome. Started with 1 D 21 about 10 years agao. Now have bought and sold over 20 D 21's and have from a B 10 to a 7080 and everthing in between. Who would of thought and now will host the 2013 GOTO in Lynden WA. next year. You will not meet a better group of people or a better forum on the web. Take care Darryl W. You guys are great! I'll post a pic of the 2nd one once I get it home. It's a '50.. My first one a '53.. Strange but the frame of the '50 is in better shape as far as rust is concerned but the sheetmetal is shot.. on my '53 it's the other way around The '50 still has generator and mag and I may try to keep it that way.. The '53 has been converted. My plan is to pull the radiator, tool box shroud, battery box and tires off the '50 to put on my '53. I think that should get me going. Yesterday I put my gas tank and carb back on the '53. I got the gas tank fairly clean but to be safe I soldered a standpipe into the top of the sediment bowl to cut down on trash exiting the tank. I'm going to try and fire it up tomorrow and see if she'll run.

Personal opinion on the stand pipe. It's a good short term fix, but now if you get any water in the tank it will lay in the bottom next to the stand pipe and over time will rust a hole in the bottom of the tank. The sediment is there to catch/filter anything that gets in the gas, why not just let it do it's thing, just clean it out when you see it needs it. I agree to an extent... but the tank was actually stopping up at the hole and keeping flow from the sediment bowl. Eventually I'll come up with something more permanent. Maybe a tank in better shape!

Another option is to coat the inside of the tank with POR-15 or Red Kote. I've had good luck with the POR-15 product and many have had good results with Red Kote. ------------- 1957 WD45 dad's first AC 1968 one-seventy 1956 F40 Ferguson |

I've been looking at Red Kote and it's definitely an option. I'm just not confident I can prep the tank well enough for good results. What I've done so far is shake, rattle and roll with a chain in the tank and hot water/soap. Rinsed that well, dried and used acetone to dry up any residual water. Then I put about 2 gallons of white vinegar in the tank to help with the rust.. let that soak for a while and did the chain/shake wash/rinse.. Then acetone again.. I was still getting pieces of rust occasionally during the rinse out which is why I decided on the standpipe.. I'm going to try to keep the tank full of gas with a water remover additive in it.

If you're lucky you can control the addiction by stopping with the tractors you've got, and switch to collecting implements. You can still get your share of orange, but (maybe) it won't cost as much! ------------- '41 C w/Woods L503 mower, #3 mower, 2-way plows for C |

got a new addict in the making today. the guy that delivered a new refrigerator showed some interest and now will be going to an auction with me at the end of the month. it'll be great if i develop a wrenching partner. he said he'd be willing to go up to about $2k and doesn't mind some wrench time. i said for that he ought to be able to get something very worth having. it's not just an addiction... it's highly contageous. ------------- 52 CA, 41 B and a little B1 oh, yeah... and an 8N ford snuck in there, too. |
