Got a 180 that jumps 3rd bad the rest all stay in , just put my foot against it;its good ; all though my D21 did once out of 3rd ; i broke a variable speed belt on the Gleaner F combining fescue seed ; had the 21 hooked to it to get it close to the shop ;i was holding it back going down a hill , just slipped it back in and held it ; my wife was in the combine , good thing too , cause she would have freaked and prolly lost it ; i kno of one kid 13 years old that got killed on an XT cause it jumped out and the brakes wer,nt very good and it rolled

Used to have one until I got it fixed.  There seems to be a combination of several items that cause it.  Worn shift linkage and forks, worn bearings on the input shaft and output shaft...

Guess I'm just lucky. Only have 2 tractors-1963 D-17 ser.3 and 1974 200. Maybe D-17's did not do it so bad-have owned it since 1967 and it's never jumped out of any gear. Have had the 200 since 1976 and same deal-never had a problem. Don't know the hours on the 200 cause the hourmeter(not tach) quit working at 5000 hours even. I would guess it has around 8-9000 hours cause hourmeter quit many years ago. I will say that me or my dad who died 5 years ago have been the only operators since 1976 and we NEVER EVER grind gears when shifting.

If you would give the gears time to stop turning before trying to put it in gear you would never have a jumpout problem. Driver problem not tractor problem.  MACK

I have never had one jump gears that didn't jump gears when I got them. I hav a wd45 diesel that jumps gears but it was that way when I got it. MACK says it right.

Out of all the tractors grandpa, dad, uncle and I have,we had one 45diesel that popped out of 3rd when he bought it. It's been fine for 30 years. I would like to mention that my buddy has an H that jumps out of 5th and you can't hold it in. It also had other gears that the teeth were broke off. I just think if Allis would of made it so you didn't have to take a bunch of stuff apart just to get the gears out it wouldn't be as big of deal

Our D-17, D-15, and D-14 all popped out of 2nd. When I opened them up to fix them the splines where the collar moves over to engage where wore out. The tractors of are 50+ years old and have had wear and tear. It happens. I bet the stuff they build now wouldn't even last that long.

I thought I should get in also, 2 of my CA's and the D14 has bad 2nd gears. My D17 , D19 and all the b's, c's, WC's, and WD's are still good.
