Just put my wd45 back together and the throttle wants to run away. It idles good but barely touch the throttle and it goes completly wide open in less than 1/8 inch of movement. I have taken the governor assembly out and can see nothing missing or wrong there. Any Ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same problem a few years ago on a 45. It ended up being a worn throttle shaft. While it's idling spray carb cleaner on the back side od the carb at the throttle shaft. If the RPM's change then that's your culprit. Mine was bad enough that I could feel side to side play when I wiggled the shaft. I ended up getting a full carb kit with a new seal and shaft.

I forgot to post that if spraying carb cleaner doesn't change anything, then I would go in the direction of adjusting the governor linkage, as long as your spring and weights are working.........

Shorten the linkage between gov. arm and carb. by bending it down toward drain plug. MACK

So far I have made a little progress, adjusting all rods helped a little, sprayed carb cleaner on carb didn't find anything, However I am rebuilding carb now.

The tarctor starts good and idles good, I went to adjust the carb and I can shut the idle and load screw all the way in and it just picks up rpms I am suspecting either bad gaskets or a crack in the carb housing.

I will keep you informed

I would check the governor first. I would look at the spring and inspect as best you can for any issue with the bearings. I've had this issue before and the bearings were the culprit.

Mark I had the same problem with a 45,I had to shorten the rod to the carb from the governor,I had a piece of rod and just made a new one,I think if I remember right I took out about three eights of an inch,worked good after that,maybe something for you to look into if you have some kind of rod around you can try to make yourself one

I had trouble wiht my newly rebuilt 45 surging. As everyone else said make sure your lonkage is adjusted correctly. By this I mean unhook the governor shaft from the shaft that connects to the butterfly. I don't remember for sure which wether it's open or closed but I think you're supposed to have to butterfly closed with the linkage all the way back and when you pull the governor shaft back, the butterfly shaft should either just fit into the hole or the governor shaft should have an 1/8" ov over travel.

THe trouble with mine ended up being I installed the butterfly upside down. There should also be a throttle return spring in the linkage between the throttle lever and the governor. I see a lot of tractors with these missing. Also make sure the friction blocks and pressure springs on the throttle lever are good.

Well, maybe I am being too obvious here but.... When she surges does the governer try to pull the throttle back? If it is not pulling the linkage back then you need to work over the governer. If it is then look and see if it is closing the throttle butterfly or hanging up somewhere. If the linkage is the problem you should be able to see that the governer is not closing the throttle when it does pull back. Now, I will state here that I have worked many WD's but not a 45. I am "assuming" the linkage is exposed the same as the WD.

Carb had a bad Venturi and main gasket was pulling gas from the bowl area and air fromthe front, found it when it backfired and had a flame coming from between the carb halfs
