Does a reground pulling cam make a noticable difference? Any suggestions on where to get one? I have heard Barney Taylor has a good one. I am running 15.5 on the WC and plan on pulling in the 3500 and 4000lb classes, 3 mph. I know I have to keep the rpms down so I dont blow the horn, at least till it starts to get some slip. Need all the torque I can get, is a cam worth the money? Thanks for any suggestions. JM

get the barney taylor cam you wount regret it. also get the reground lifters.

If you call ole barn get his rocker arm stands to correct height issue causing stand breakage and bushings/ washers to do away with the shaft spring so rockers stay centered to. Unless your planning on running murphy rockers then rocker stands come with them .  Factory rocker arm geometry is horrible.

I put a Taylor cam in. Helped but didn't get me into first place. Very seldom do I even place.

With the RPM and speed limits, most of the reground cams are not worth it.  I have seen many people put the latest and greatest stuff in just to find that they won't lug at all.  In the IH's that we have worked with, we tried to stay with the latest of that family of engine (M we would used a 450).  IH had some paper work with some of the fire crater kits that estimated the hp gain at 1.5-3 hp when using the later cam.  If you do choose to get a camshaft reground, be very honest with the grinder about what you are trying to do.  Lots of times people over estimate setup and end up with something that won't work.

I put a reground cam in my tugger and didn't notice any thing. May be a dyno would show a gain though. I think I am going to get a set of Murphys rocker for my semi stock WC. To bad I didn't have a dyno to play with.

For what you are doing a ground cam isn't going to do much if anything.  But timeing your existing cam to give an intake centerline of 104 degrees after TDC would help a bunch and cost little to do.

Cam lobe lift or lifter rise times rocker ratio is net valve lift . Net valve lift is measurable roll the engine till valve is all the way open . If that measurment from tip of where valve stem was closed to know fully open  doesn't match the above formula then bad geometry is costing you valve lift .  Those  low rpm motors need valve lift with little to no duration change . Cam  most always needs to be degreed in . IF you dont have a degree wheel then do it using cylinder psi gauge . Set to the highest cylinder cranking pressure reading . Cause you simply can not beat the increased torque compression offers.

I was typing while rod was replied . yes 104 works . It takes some doing though to get there  if you want the cam gear mark to align with the crank gear mark like a gear and cam machined to accept a 6 degree chevy advance bushing and the crank gear to accept a two degree advance key .  The ones I have checked if the cam had been left straight up factory setting it could handle a serious nitrous shot or boost from a turbo.
