How many wc maintainers did allis make? Are they common? What are they worth? I think these things are so cool. Like to get one someday to restore.

There were 411 of the AC Maintainers made. I have a 1938 unstyled one. I do not think there are very many of them accounted for.

As was stated there were 411 Speed Maintainers built in 1938-1940. There was the early version like mine, a few with the square grader frame on the styled tractor, and the final version like Fred has. I know of fewer than 10 of all versions. This is my 1938 at the GOTO in Union Grove in 05

Jack Gustafson had one on a newer WC but the only real evidence that I have is a magazine ad from 1939.

think you could post that advertisement for me to save? I have a collection of advertisements and brochures on my computer I've saved over the years. If I ever do anything with it I will be sure to give you credit. Handshake

Maintainer has pressed steel rear rims'.W-Patrol Has the heavey cast center with clamp on rims .
Rear gear's are slower in the W-Patrol
And as already said ,front end's .
The Maintainer also dose not have 2 clutch pedals ,Maintainer's only have 1 pedal as a regular WC ,no clutch pedal under axle houing out to rear plat fourm .Patrol has back clutch pedal ,
that could be used for standing up while Gradeing .
There are a few difference's
Maintainer dose not have a wide plat forum to stand on .

The operators manual that I have calls it a "Speed Maintainer attachment for WC tractor'
Likely most left the factory as a unit, but it would appear that the attachment could have been ordered for an existing tractor. Speed Maintainers have a grader and a tractor serial number. Speed Patrols do not have a serial number on the tractor pumpkin. My Maintainer was cobbled onto a Farmall H when I found it so I traded a WF for this WC with a serial number in the correct range. Other than the single front wheel the tractor is a standard WC. Unstyled versions did not have fenders because the fenders interfered with the blade lift.

Drott made a grader attatchment. I've seen them on a WD and I think a B if I remember right.
I think it was Drott.

I have seen a couple of them on a B. There was one on a B at George Suttons auction at Litchfield, Il. a few years ago, do not remember what it brought.

Drott made a lot of industrial equipment for AC and other tractor companies, I have an IB with a Drott sickle bar mower on it. It has 2-2 way hyd. cylinders and is ran by hyd. with a front mount hyd. pump.

Speaking of Drott I find it interesting that years ago Ed Drott who started Drott Caterpiller Co was a hobo who was pennyless along with my Grandfather. They had nothing and rode the trains looking for work any kind digging ditches, splitting firewood for a meal ect. They even threw a rock through a sheriff office window in Montana so they would get arrested and get something to eat. They went in a field and ate frozen turnips for Christmas dinner once. Good people but hard times. My Grandfather died owning a very nice farm which is still in the family and Ed died with a owning a huge company. He died speaking at a board of directors meeting. They kept in touch with each other many years .
