Nice site here
bought a hd5g with a backhoe for less than scrap price. came with a spare motor but both motors blower rotors are busted from water freezing. was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and wondering if they just got a reman blower or if you can still order the rotors from some place. Have done some searching on just the rotors and im striking out
Thanks
Jeremy

I had the same problem on one HD5B I bought and found one lobe at a place in Duluth MN . I had the address and phone number but when look it up a month or so back it's not the right place now.
I have a complete 2-71 that I have out of another machine but know nothing about it except when I bought the 2 machines from guy he had the extra engine as said this one lost oil pressure so he replaced it with a generator 2-71
I want $500 for the full engine . What I paid to have a new head rebuilt for mine.

If you install replacement rotors be careful and mindful that they DO NOT, CAN NOT contact one another.  Detroit Blowers run with a narrow but significant clearance rotor to rotor, set with a ribbon gauge and shimming the rotor drive gears, you will need at least those pages out of a 71 series service manual to set them correctly.  This is most often after dirt the cause for blower failures.

When I was looking for them the first time , one outfit told me they only sold them in sets and needed both as clearance issues would result if mis-matched  sets were used .
Outfit I got the one from told me how to set it up (according to book) for the proper clearance and match.
Lot of information out there but some is not the full story.

Seems when people plug that drain hole in the bottom of the blower housing - water gets in and there goes a lobe - that is what happened to the HD5B I bought from guy .
He said engine was locked - no engine was free - the lower blower lobe broke from freezing and locked up blower which made engine seem locked.
