I have a 1959 D17 that cuts out from time to time.  If you wiggle the key switch, it runs again.  Does the switch ground to the instrument pannel, or do I probably need a new switch?  I have a switch from a Gleaner AII that looks the same, would this one work?  Thank you!

Probably one of the connections on back of the starter switch is loose.  Could also be the piece coming out of the switch itself.  Check wiring first, if not replace the switch.  I think the AII switch is the same, but not certain.  Maybe someone else can chime in.

More than likely, its the switch itself causing the problems. Those switches were borderline for the load requirements back then, and quite a few were replaced. Another problem that exsisted  was the "stacking" at the back of the switch with multiple wires to only 4 terminals. A "no-no" in the electrical industry. We offer a HD Ignition switch kit with plug for the "D" series machines. Fits right in the same hole in the dash, and is twice the size and rating for the system. Has multiple terminals on the back of it. The kit is $55. bucks if interested.....
