We have a small problem and looking for an answer. The tractor has about 600 hours on it and very well maintained and always shedded. Not always but about 50% of the time when you start it , it may run for several seconds but then seem to be starving for fuel and sometimes die. You try to start it again and it might hesitate but then run great all day. We use only the cleanest fuel, checked and cleaned the fuel bowl, rebuilt the fuel pump with Agco kit, and have a new fuel filter on it. I'm stumped. Why will it start half the time with no problem at all and the other times it will stutter and die on us?? Thanks in advance !! Ryan

I'm just guessing but I think you have a tiny leak in the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. Had the same problem with a Kubota M110. Found a rodent had bit into the rubber fuel line under the cab. Drove me nuts for several months before I put air pressure from the fuel pump to the tank, blew diesel out under the cab, ahaa!

It really does sound like air getting into the feed side of the Injection Pump. Remember air can get in before fuel can get out, so the line doesn't have to leak fuel to have a hole in it.

am doubtful about a fuel line leak on the supply side. why does it run perfect the rest of the day after the initial hesitation? is the run perfect condition @ wide open throttle or reduced rpm? would think there is an issue of flow restriction from the tank causing the initial hesitation. also, perform a cold test start up with the fuel cap in a loose position. monitor results.

I did talk the cap off and took it apart to make sure the spring breather wasnt stuck. It was ok. The hesitation or stalling might happen immediately or sometimes several seconds after start. Sometimes it will not happen at all!! Does it depend on where the engine crank or cam stopped the previous time meaning a leak in the injection system by loosing pressure or???????? All help will be appreciated!!!!!! Ryan

I am not familiar with the 6690, but am with a 5660 and 5680. We had the same problem as you with the 5660 after it had a couple thousand hours on it. The sediment bowl had always been dirty on it and we lived with it starting, stalling and starting back up till one day the banjo bolt worked completely loose that holds the bowl on (and the supply line to the bowl) and she would not run. One of the copper washers had a dark line across it like it had been leaking, I changed it and it never has failed to start and stay running since...well...except when it ran out of fuel a couple times...lol
