Bunch of good stuff there.  But, do not forget the "finger in the number one cyl" method.  We used it for years.  In fact I did not know there were fire marks on the flywheel till I got on this site.
Set the mag on no one cyl.  Mount in vice and turn till you get fire from no one cyl,  Remove the plug from the number one cyl.  One nearest the radiator.  Turn the engine with finger in hole - plug wires disconnected - till you feel pressure.  When hits top dead center mag linkage should be at 90 degrees.  Couple mag.  Re plug wires. Start tractor.  Fine tune by moving mag on ears.  When right tighten.
Worked for us for YEARS!
I know the other is better but when you are in the field on a hot sunny day this works.
Good Luck!
