When I removed the old block from the tractor and removed the pressure plate and clutch I didn't look to see which way the clutch was in. I believe there is a dish shaped part on one side that is an "Oil deflector". I am not sure which way it goes - toward the bell housing or towards the motor-. Any help will be appreciated.

We took the shift tower off and I had to oil it up to work. While it was off we must of moved the lever off of nuetral and now it is stuck. I know that I moved the forks and can't get them back to nuetral also. Any suggestions to accomplish this will be greatly appreciated.

Which tractor is this for ...is it the shifter from the WC you were working on? Pictures would help if you can get them. As far as getting it into neutral I would get both into neutral before assembly if you can. If the transmission was not in neutral when you took it apart which gear was it in?

Sorry. WC 42. Yes it was in nuetral when we took it apart. I can't get pics to post on this forum. Guess I don't know the photobucket thing. I can post them on mytractorforum, in the Allis Chalmers Big Tractors section. I have been posting there under "42 WC Motor transplant. I will try to get them on here also. Thanks.

Had a look at the photos on the other site. Hard to be sure but they match up with the position of my transmission gears and shifter forks...

As I'm not there, I can only say what I'd check to see if I missed if it were mine.

I'd inspect the movement of the shifter (out of the transmission) smooth no chatches no speakable resistance .

check the gears for alignment mesh and movement again, no chatches.

If those are good the only thing I would think it could be is something is slightly out of proper alignment when your setting it on.

As for the clutch I won't see that part again till the weekend so hopefully someone chimes in.

I figured out the clutch question and happy to announce that we have the motor in and ready to button up in a few days. Have a few things to do to get it running. Noticed tonight that the crank starter rod from the front will not work. It appears to be to short, and the pin that spins the pully is shot. Will have to look at that later. I have a starter at the starter shop to get fixed. This one didn't come with electric start but I'm ok with making it that way. The flywheel on the new motor has the ring gear on it and the cap for the starter is there on the tractor to take out.

The trans tower is my next project for the tractor. I believe I am going to have to take it apart and re-work it. It appears that I am going to have to get the 9/16 pin kit for it as the original pin is very sloppy. It is going to take a while to do this as a couple of important home projects have unfortunately popped up. Thanks for all the help and I am sure I will come back with more questions.
