Saw a series 2 D12 pulling a new holland 271 square baler today.It was going through the hay fine looked like it was a jurking ride for driver.I have a D12 just like it i did not figure the D12 pto system would hold up with the small spline pto shaft in the fly wheel.Ask owner about it he said he has baled about 800 bale a year for 6 years.Anyone else ever done this.I use a D14 with a square baler it handles a square baler fine but D12 I would be scared.Mike

My grandpa baled thousands and thousands of bales with an 8N Ford....I would think a D12 could take as much.....

My father farmed many years baling 3,000 a year with a CA and never had a problem. The flywheel evens out the torque. Tractor going back and forth is the plunger action.

I know they have the power but looks like it would damage the pto on a series 2.I know mine will handle a sickle mower with ease.

don't know about a D12, but a CA, D14 & D15 have the same size shaft coming out of the clutch. I would think that the D12 is the same.

I think Mike is thinking about the hollow shaft that provides the live pto for the D12.....the splines are fairly shallow and I have heard of them getting stripped. One of the reasons I would never put a heavy tiller behind a live pto D10/12, but the flywheel should help eliminate problems with a baler....like Stan stated.

Yes its the small splined shaft that goes in the flywheel to give it live power i was thinking would be the problem.Never thought of the fly wheel balancing it out.

I haven't seen it, but if you've ever seen 10 series fords, they have a small splined shaft that powers the PTO and hydraulics, and it'll wear out every once in a while, but it can handle 100+ hp through the PTO without a problem.
