I was shredding with the d15 and suddenly it just dies. I can wait 30 seconds and it starts up and runs for 30 minutes or so and stops again. I suspect the coil. My local dealer no longer has a parts guy so we can't get one from him. Usually I order from SL but forgot this week. Will a standard 12v coil from NAPA work? I need to finish shredding before it gets really hot. Tim

True it could be the coil but it also sounds like something is floating around inside the tank blocking fuel from coming out. It may also be the condenser. I'd check fuel flow first as it won't cost anything. Remove the drain from the carb bowl and catch the fuel in a clean container. Let it run for awhile and see if it stops before the tank gets empty. My brother, Warren had a D-15II that did the same thing. The gas line was just a generic rubber hose and the inside of the hose was disintegrating and pieces of rubber would randomly plug up the fuel flow. He installed a hose specifically made to resist gasoline and had no more trouble. HTH |

| I'll double check the fuel system. I cleaned the tank, put a new sediment bowl and fuel line one last year. I'm pretty confident it's the electrical system. The engine stops like you turn the key off. There's no sputtering or backfire like fuel. I'll rob a coil off another tractor and see if that works. |

i tried doing the carb on my 15 cause it started dying under load plowing however like a putts i dropped my lower half of my carb right on the floats and bent them pretty bad read online that the floats should be 1/4 inch from nearist face of carb where gasket sits so streightend it out and reinstalled did not now what to set the carb at so on my marvel sheber carb i set the big screw in front 3 turns out from all the way in and the little one on the side 1 turn out on start up motor is acting like it back fires through the air breather tube but cleans out once the engine warms up i still need to plain the manifold yet also but now that i have bought a original shop repair manual im going to try and take the floats out for a closer look it is funny i would not think it would burp through the air breather i submurged the floats in gas and did not see any bubbles so maybe im just bending them too much????? i should have held on to it tighter slipped right through my hads ran worse before i rebuilt the carb so i guess every time i take it apart it can only get better and better what is the standered setting some of you all set your 15's at?

Dean has a good point. I fought my B for the better part of the 1st summer after I bought it. Die just like you shut the key off. No backfire, no sputter. Check fuel flow, seemed ok out the bottom of carb. Fuel out of the line was good, nothing in the tank???????? After the 3rd time of taking the carb off to clean it out , I forgot to shut the fuel off at the bowl, fuel was coming out then stoped! I split the line open with my knife and it looked like a cat had puked in it. New fuel line and she hasnt missed a lick.
If you lived closer you could borrow my extra coil,rotor, coil wire, key switch etc....lol ------------- What do you mean another tractor, honey? That tractor has been here for years. |
