Eldon, I saw your earlier post, when you bought a Brake Riveter? I was planning on buying one too. But I had to go to a Dr. in Charlotte,NC , took my AC 175 drums to have new pads riveted, but could NOT find anyone in big Charlotte that was doing that! WOW..times are 'a - changing' huh? One large equip company there told me they sent all their work out to Carolina Clutch & Brake in Hickory,NC. So I came back by them, and they did a nice job, and even showed me how to rivet pads. I asked the owner if he had any old riveter laying around for sale, and he did! I picked this one up for $100, ready to go! He showed me the difference in 'glueing in & cooking' the wider brake belt material vs the 'imported & tiny' new pads you order. Hopefully I can learn to use this on all the old AC's around here! What do ya'll think? Anybody still use these?  |

Bruce that one should do the job! Mine is just a little bugger, but it has a deep enough throat to do the 170/175 drums....and cost me $26. You have to clamp it in a vise and use a hammer..... ------------- ALLIS EXPRESS! This year: |

Eldon, I was planning on ordering one just like yours. See what your awesome AC posts do to motivate people....ha! This gentleman showed me around while working on my AC drums. He had this older machine in the back, said it was taking up room, mine for $100. He told me I'd have to fix the foot-operated pneumatic punch control. Didn't want my money till I came back w / truck to pick it up, but I paid upfront anyhow, to hold it. When I went back to get it, he had forgotten, he'd already fixed riveter earlier. Said the foot-control would have cost that much! Ted, after I couldn't find anyone in Charlotte to rivet ( thought that was wierd? ), and wanting to get one like Eldon's, ....thought maybe I could learn to do some around here. I've got lots of old stuff....John's AC G tractor never has had much of a brake...like Flintstones! Darrel, he recommended using the 'woven brake pads with brass flakes' glued , and heated 400+ deg.F, for 4 hours. Said these would 'hold' much better even when oil leaks occurred, where the riveted pads would get loose with oil and tear up. I'll try to post pictures of both brake pads to show you! The little fellow in background photo is my Gson, on 'His' AC175 gasser, I bought the week he was born! It had been sitting fencerow for about 5-10 yrs!
