i am planning on getting a 190xt diesel soon and maybe trading a  http://www.allischalmers.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=49753&PID=388100&#" rel="nofollow - ford  tractor for it and was wondering if there was anything i should worry about like any common problems or anything i should keep and eye on with a 190xt. i have a 185 already and i love it and has had no problems but only a recent water pump and alternator in all the years we have had it. is the 190xt as well behaved or is there anything i need to know? thanks and i would enjoy some pictures of some 190xt's from all you allis chalmers 190xt owners as well.LOL

I don't know the split, but you want a later one, with the heavier rear end in it, has a heavier differential, and better axles.

Some of they guys will be able to tell you what s/n the change happened at.

Check for gear jumping, power director should pull good in high and low, pto engagement, engine blowby, brakes, steering slop, 3pt slop, are the sway blocks there?

Mine has the bosses on the ends of the axle housings and some strange cross hatch casting marks....I assume they have larger outboard bearings than the earlier models.  Mine also had a lift assist kit for the 3pt with 2 extra lift cylinders, HD drawbar and the cat I sway blocks mounted above the Cat II's....Oh, and I think it is putting out close to 120 HP.....

The earlier ones did have problems with the rearends,more specifically the ring/pinion and axles being too light for the power these were capable of. Most, if not all, should have been remedied long ago however one still needs to be informed that this did occur. Drive it listening for unusual noises and downhill to check all gears for jumping out. If that checks out, by all means buy it, change fluids no matter what PO says, drive it correctly, and keep the HP setting down to reasonable level. Ours is an earlier one(1967) Grandpa bought used a few years later. Dad said it had major rearend work when I was very young(early 70s) due to my uncle double clutching it(guess what he did for a day job). The rearend locked up in road gear leaving skid marks on the road as if both brakes were locked down. Only minor issues with a gear,collar,shift fork once in awhile while we worked the farm another 20 years. PD was rebuilt after farm was sold and rest of tranny checked out OK. Just a big toy now as Dad can't part with it. I hope to restore her some day.

Jordan i am hopefully trading a ford 4000 gas with a farmhand loader for this tractor and thanks everyone else for the pictures. i want a 190xt for a little more power to use on our jd 1360 diskbine during hay season because the 185 gets a little hot and i want to save the trouble of having to hook from the diskbine to the round baler, and to also pull a jd 750 drill thats in my profile picture hooked to the 185, the 185 can pull it but it slips alot and a bigger heavier tractor with more power i am hoping will help solve the problem.  and i have always liked to look of the 190xt with they way they were designed. and i do in fact have orange fever i have a d14 as well that i am about to overhaul.
