Well i finally got to put the 175 to use bush hogging the other day. Ran like a top. It may be running a bit rich, but thats ok. Sounds good with that chrome pipe. So its on to fix other problems. I recently changed the trans and hydraulic fluids. I had a dumb moment while doing that but no harm done. Anyway ever since i got the tractor the left rear 3pt lift cylinder has been leaking. I am a do it yourselfer, but another guy told me to take it to a hyd shop to do it right. I do value his opinion but, im just seeing what others think. Is it more to it than just replacing seals. Or will there possibly be machine work invloved.
Also, i did notice after i was done bush hogging that there was excess pressure in one of the hyd fluid compartments. I loosened the filler cap by your left knee, the one thats bolt like as opposed to the one on the right side, and pressurized air came out. I got to looking at the filler cap and am guessing it should act as a vent also, but its not. Should this cap function as a vent?? Perhaps its plugged. I tried blowing comp. air up though it to no avail. Im guessing excess pressure cant be good on seals and what not.

I've rebuilt the lift cylinders on my D17sIV, which is the same as a 175.
Not a big deal. You'll need a kit. I've put together a list of what's needed and an illustration showing the details. I can send it to you if you want it. PM me.
One cylinder on mine was so badly pitted, that I had to make a new one. Bought some pre-honed steel tubing and did the machine work on it...turn out nice.

Baum Hydraulics (www.baumhydraulics.com) may have the kit. And might not. Down load the catalog section on tractor hydraulic seals, its better than their search engine. Gerald J. |

| OK folks, the cylinder is off and ready to be worked on. Just one thing. None of the diagrams that i have looked at look like my cylinder. So i took a looksy at the agco parts books. Turn out they changed cylinder types somewhere through the years. Apparently mine is the newer style cylinder 170-5019 and up. It looks like there is a lot fewer pieces to this cylinder as opposed to the other. Is this a good thing or bad thing?? Looks like i need to pry out the front seal to access and remove a wire ring of some wort so i can remove rod?? Looked for a place to insert spanner wrench and none appeared. |

| You have to work through the hyd. hose inlet port with a screw driver. There are 2 grooves in the cylinder rod . One is deeper than the other. Just flip the snap ring into the other groove with your screwdriver and the rod will pull right out of the barrel. Then you can replace the seal yourself. Check inside the barrel for damage while you have it apart. Hope this helps |
