I need to purchase an owner’s manual for my WD 45 so I can adjust and repair the tractor properly.  Looking on line, I find Owners Manuals, Service Manuals, Shop manuals, etc.

Does anybody have a recommendation on which manual will help me most with repairs and general maintenance?

My first repair is the clutch/transmission.  It is nearly impossible to shift into 3rd and 4th.  Next the hand clutch does not disengage the engine from the drive train.

Thanks!

Steve

Good god man use black for your text color!

Generally owners manuals cover operation and very basic maintenance, service manuals cover some more in depth maintenance and repairs and the shop manual is what the dealer techs would have and goes way in depth. I usually buy an owners and service manual for any piece of equipment I have.

The default font is easy to read. tan on tan is useless, pale blue is nearly useless.

You need to operator's manual for details on ordinary maintenace, like oil, coolant, plugs, timing, tire pressures, carbuertor adjustments and stuff like safe operation. You need the shop manual for details like taking it apart and putting it back together and judging wear. The factory shop manuals usually are way more informative than the I & T "shop manuals" that may be close to correct but are not extensive in details. They presume you know all the fundamentals of machinery and just need the details specific to the one that's the subject of that particular volume. The I&T manual for new generation JDs covers 6 models in about 60 pages, the early 4020 Deere manual is about 1-3/8" thick and so has a lot more needed detail.

No - on my computer it is impossible to read your second post.

Don't try to re-invent the wheel

Change your font colour to 'black'

I have an IT manual and use it all the time. I know some people don't like em, but it works for me cause it covers everything from a G to the 45 diesel.

To read those posts with the bad colors, left click with the PC mouse and highlight them as if preparing to copy the text. They come up white on cobalt blue which is quite readable.

JW, someone, I don't remember who, on this forum made the GIF file for me and I just linked to it. Evidently the site it was on changed or went away so I had to regress to the picture I made.
