The old girl (1959) is having a heck of a time starting, wants to fire every thirty seconds or 2 minute or so but just hits and then have to wait longer. There is Plenty if not to much fuel to the plugs, just tried a new dist. cap, rotor and points. still hard to start, crank, crank, crank. If she starts she purrs like a kitten, its just getting the kitten to start. Just had the Carb rebuilt last fall, tank boiled etc. if i pull the first plug I have fire she just seems like she is getting to much fuel and flooding the plug. i mean wet. Got her started today and fuel was coming out of the manifold. disc 3 acre's today, shut her off tried to start her same thing, hard to start.

Too much fuel might be the problem if it's back washing out the carb inlet, you said fuel coming out them manifold? Sounds like a float problem in your carb or something in the seat keeping the needle from closing off fuel when the bowl is full. Plugs get fouled with gas if you flood it a couple times. Might take them out and burn em off with the torch and wire brush them. Even brand new plugs will do this if they are flooded a couple times.

Yeah agree with Charlie maybe after running for a while shut off and look at plugs...should be dry. Float level [parallel with body]when turned upside down and make sure needle does seat w/o debris? Valves can be checked and set in 30 mins easily.

Try cranking the engine with the spark plugs removed to see if gas squirts out. I saw one time where the float in the carb just let gas go into the engine.

Thanks Guys, I will take the carb apart and check the float level. i took it off the other day just assuming the float was sticking but never checked for level. I just emry clothed the float rod and all looked good. I will try new plugs and adjusting the float. i have talked to to many people around home that are all telling me different things. I tought I would ask this group as you seem to know the best. Thanks again.

Another thing to try is after you shut the engine down for the day is to turn off the gas. See if it starts normally the next day after turning back on the gas. The float valve may be leaking or not shutting off the fuel flow when the bowl is full and over filling the intake with lots of fuel. Also if you have the carb apart is to inspect the float to make sure it's not got a hole in it that would allow it to fill with gas and make it sink like a rock, thus allowing too much gas to enter the bowl.

The new needle valve may be letting gas past it. If the needle don't have a rubber tip on it, get one that does. MACK

I'm like Stan. cut the gas off before you shut the tractor off, then crank it as soon as you can after turning it back on. If it cranks as it should the float is not shutting off the fuel. Stan IL&TN

If you take the carb off to check the float level, also check the drop. If it falls too far, it can hang up on the sides of the bowl and stick there allowing way too much gas in. Also while holding the top half upside down the float should be level with the gasket surface. Blow with lung pressure into the inlet and it should not let air through.

Thanks All, appreciate all the good ideas. I got her going and she is running better then ever, put new plugs, wires, ajusted the carb etc. I had also put new points, rotor, dust cap, condenser dist.cap. She basically got a good well deserved make over.
I never cuss this machine, always talk to her nice and she never fails me. She was being real stubborn so she needeed a little attention I guess. All is well now and like I said she is running great. Thanks again for all the help.
