Not sure what the heck this is. Bulington Northern & Santa Fe railroad goes thru the middle of the section. This rig said Norfolk & Western. I think it might be a dynomometer car.

Possably a business deal going on between the BNSF and NS?,,who knows any more

 

Well it was a rough old tractor when I bought it, it hasn't gotten any better over time. LOL

 

The door used to pop open once in awhile, it popped open while I was mowing roads just when I was next to a sign and that was it. (It had been bent straightened and welded at least once before.) One of the side glass was a plexiglass sheet when I bought it, that didn't last long. Then I've had it on it's side twice mowing roads, I got to say the ROPS cab works or I wouldn't be here today. We don't mow ditches with it anymore, we use a batwing and a bigger tractor with the wheels set wide or duals on.

 

It's been a good chore / loader tractor but the power director only works in low and the hydraulics are getting weak and it has fuel system issues. I'd love to rebuild it with fenders and a factory roll bar and canopy but more than likely it's going to get traded as is.

 

It's a 460 gas, I don't think anyone has ever checked the mileage since it's been around here. It's the 5th 460 I've had in various 3/4 and 1 ton Fords so I'd estimate 8 mpg although being fuel injected it might do better.

 

I bought this one from a buddy and it was a "deal".

 

I bought it with the transmission out. Anyone need a good ZF 5 speed for a 4 wheel drive with a 351 Windsor? I was assured it would interchange but didn't know the bellhousing was part of the case. So after I had the original transmission rebuilt I have an extra. About a year later the rear end went out. Currently it's been fuel pumps. When it works it's a great truck! LOL It was a fertillizer truck so it has been used and abused. The cab floor needs some patchin up next.

 

Bill, we're small potatoes today. Across the road from me is a 400 plus hp Deere 4WD with a 50' more or less field cultivator. My 8070 would look about the same next to it as the WD looks next to the 200. Later there wil be a 24 row planter show up and make short work of 160 acres and be on down the road.

 

My 16 row is a remnent of when I farmed 950 acres, it would keep two 7060's with 25' field cultivatos humping to stay ahead of me. Today we work 80 to 100 acres up and the next day I start planting at a leasurly pace while Andrew works up the rest of the ground. The next day I'll get done planting corn. About 220 acres of corn all together.

 

We used to get 160 to 200 acres or more a day depending on how much moving and what size fields we were in.

 

It's an IH 4600 I think, just before they became CaseIH. It's a good one but I'd like a DMI or a CNH/DMI but they don't show up used in the 25 - 26 foot size around here and I'm not in the market to buy new.

 

Just finished planting corn yesterday. If I can get my burndown sprayed this week I might start beans next weekend. We have a chance for rain on Wednesday. Forecast is highs in the 60's to 70's with lows in the 40's next week.

 

I'd be surprised if we're much more than 50% planted around here, noone seems to be in much of a hurry. The ground has been working nice. After mudding in at least part of the crop the last couple years this is great. The soil is about perfect for notilling the beans. We wouldn't turn down a rain but we're not hurting for one.

 

Oh yes, one of the boys informed me the neighbor's Deere 4WD is 525 hp. YIKES!
