I was looking online at 65-85 HP tractors with cabs. Seems the 6000 series Agco/Allis go pretty cheap. Has anyone had experience with these? I see one on Tractor house for about $12K with 4000 hours and cab. 1993 model I think. Can you get parts through an Allis Chalmers dealer?

We have a 6690 that we bought new on our farm. It is used for basic weed control and light work because our farm ground is rented out. It only has about 600 hours on it I think its a '95 model. We treat all our tractors very well and maintain them. We have never had a problem with the 6690. We really like the air cooled motor. We pull a 7' mower behind it in very tall weeds in the pasture when its 95 degrees and it runs very cool. Again though, we are always blowing dust of the engine and oil coolers before we use it hard. It makes me wonder about the opinions about the air cooled engines in the Gleaner combines. Some farmers love them and have 4000+ hours on them and others think the engine is a piece of sh*t!!! Is it how they where maintained?? Back to the 6690, what I dont like is the transmission shifters. There are 3 ones sticking out of the cab floor and its hard to jump in the cab and know what gear or range you are in. It would be better with a console that would identify what gear/range you are in by a range decal. Other than that, they are VERY easy on fuel and parts are readily available at you Agco dealer. How far the Agco dealership is from you is their screwup. Ryan

They seem like a lot of tractor for the money. Are they basically an updated Same tractor from Italy?

had a 6680 for a while and only had one problem with gear shift lever. Put on a new one, and was trouble free after that. Ran a 21 foot swather and had a loader. Traded for a rt115 which was bulletproof.

Schmidt & Sons seems to have a lot of those model tractors, don't know if they were popular in that area or they get them elsewhere. One of the biggest AGCO dealers in the west. Fun place to visit. I don't see the hours on that ad, I've noticed that sometimes if the machine has high hours they don't post them. 12 grand seems like a reasonable price if it doesn't have more then 4000 hr.

Look for a Ford 5640 or 6640. Great tractors, much nicer cab.

I have a '95 6690 with 1200 hours I bought 2 yrs ago. I really like it but had an electrical issue and then last summer while running the bushhog the air conditioning went out and I spent almost $2,000 to get it fixed. The 4WA and the loader make it a real working machine and it is a SAME tractor.

They are out there for 15-18k with cab.

This is crazy! I was actually looking at that one prior to the Agco. I am weighing in on whether I will kick myself for not getting MFWD or not. I am up in MN; would be one heck of a road trip!

What will you do with it? We have a 5640 2wd. About 5400 hrs. alternator and A/C pump are the most extensive repairs.

2wd drive is fine. Ours is haying and planter tractor.

Talked to guy about the 6640. Said it has a "knock" that goes away after running for several minutes. Claims mechanics don't think it is anything serious. I don't like the sound of it. Looks like a 5640 would be perfect. Just have to find one nearby.
