This might get a little long so I apologize in advance. I have 2 questions about my D-17 ser I.
1. Using it today to spread "fertilizer" and she started to run a little rough. Pull the choke out about 2/3 to 3/4 and she runs better. Thought it might be a fuel issue so I checked the sediment bowl and all was ok. Took line off at carb and seemed to be a good flow so I put it all back together. Still runs rough. I'm thinkin' something carb related but what I know about carbs could fit in a thimble with room left over. Any thought what I should look at next?
2. I want to put a fender mount radio on. System is + ground. Assuming that the radio isn't grounded through the mounting plate, can I just run wires direct from battery to radio- + wire to + term and - wire to - term? ( of course there will be a fuse on the + side)

Remove the plug at the bottom of the carb, and let the gas flow through it into a bucket for 3-5 minutes to check fuel flow. You should have a steady flow at a rate about the size of a pencil.
I think you will find that the radio has 1 wire and is grounded through the case. You could isolate the case from the tractor and add a wire to the case and connect that way.

You need to remove ,clean, and reassemble your carb with a kit from a vendor here, If you really want this radio , change your tractor to a negative ground, swap the cables from the battery opposite, reflash the regulator/ generator, and swap the terminal connections to your ammeter. I don't think I left anything out except that somewhere on your radio there may be a cover with differant wire connections for  pos or neg ground, your chioce..... check that first.

Swap wires on the coil also.

Thanks for the replies so far guys! 1 thing I forgot to mention is the radio has 2 wires out the back- 1 red + and 1 black -. That's why I'm thinking that if I hook to batt I can use it. I plan on checking w/ a continuity tester to make sure that the case isn't a ground before I hook it up.
