For those of you that get nostalgic like I do, there is a web site that features old aerial photos like the USDA uses when reporting crops. My particular county has from 1939, 1952,2002,2006,2008, and 2009. The later are satellite images and much clearer. The neat thing is, you can find a location and click between years and see the changes that have happened during the interim. I have seen land that I farm where the acreages and farmsteads sprang up, flourished and are now gone. It is sad to see, but I guess that is how things are. I am not going to change them. You can zoom in, and drag the map around to see different areas. If you have a little time to use up this will be ideal for you!

I think the idea is to order prints from them, but I find it interesting just to snoop.

If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done!

Thank you sooo much. I have bookmarked the page for future reference.
Remember, I'm old enough to remember 1955
Yes, it is hard to believe

Good Luck!

Late '30s photos for all of us Illinoisans:

I was also amazed at how many homesteads were around. They farmed every little bit of land, and you can really see the soil erosion in my area. The time period is interesting because it's about when the switch to tractors was occurring.
