I've been having a problem with the carb on my 58 D14 for quite sometime. It leaks quite a bit of gas into the breather tube over time, as well as out of the bottom. The carb has been cleaned, has new needle and seat, and the float is set where it should be. Any idea what the problem could be?

Would a complete rebuild kit solve this?

I appreciate the assistance.

Sounds like your needle valve isn't seating properly. Is it one with the rubber tip?

I like the steel ones. I had that problem with the newly rebuilt carb on my G. I took it off and turned it over several times and blew in the inlet tube, now it works fine. Some people like to tap the valve into the seat with a hammer when assembling. Bob

This is probably not the problem, but make sure that your fuel cap is venting properly?

I had the same thing on my H-3 dozer. I bought a new float and it has not leaked since. I could not tell the float was leaking, but it was enough to cause problems.

You could have some debris lodged in the inlet canal getting though the needle valve and holding the needle valve a tic off its seat. This would let the fuel creep in every so slight. Also could be a sinking float. Pull the float out and give it a gentle shake by your ear. If you hear fuel sloshing around in the float, you've found your problem.....
