should a haybine ride on shoes, or should the hydraulics hold the blade and shoes off the ground?

Drags on shoes across the ground not resting on the hydraulics.

If it doesn't have poly covering the skids, add it.  Makes the skids last forever, and slides alot nicer across the ground.

Mike how/where do you get poly? Sounds great although I have never seen them. Make your own? I have a 489 I'd love to try them on. Thanks, Dana PS Where is New Ulm? Oh maybe Mn.?

New Ulm is in Southern MN.  I get our poly stuff from a company called May Wes.  They are located in Hutchinson, MN.  Their website is http://www.MAYWES.com" rel="nofollow - www.MAYWES.com .  Part # for a 489 NH is 80363, and my 2011 catalog says they cost $56 per pair.  I put a pair on our 479 NH and they do make a difference, especially when doing road ditches.......Mike

Most of them that I have seen ride on the shoes, but you can easily lift by hand (about 50 lb). My JD moco and Hesston discbine are both adjusted like this.

Thanks Mike! Did you have to bolt or rivet after predrilling?

Old leaf springs welded to the shoe make a good fix for haybine shoes. Bill
