I have read "An Industrial History, Allis-Chalmers History" by Peterson and "The Allis Chalmers Story" by Wendel. They are both great books with a lot of information about Allis-Chalmers History. Unfortunately Peterson's book, published in 1977 ends while A-C was still a profitable and viable company. Is there any publication or book that continues the story from 1977 to the end, (19??)?

Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985 by Norm Swinford. I think I got that all right. I consider it the best of the AC books.

I forgot to mention that that book only covers the Agricultural side of Allis.

I got one back in the summer as a b-day present. I can't think they paid much more than $60 for it, I have seen them for under $50 somewhere... If I can only remember where!

I would recommend "Stalin Over Wisconsin" as well. Tells about how Cold War politics and AntiUnion management at AC crushed the UAW local 248 in the plant.

Austin;

I think "Stalin Over Wisconsin" is basically during and right after WW2. I'm looking for info on what killed A-C after its 1977 apparent prosperity.

EdK: I think if you get the annual reports after the time period you reference you will get the answers you are looking for.

When I bought my book several years ago, I called mr Swinford directly.  A very nice man and he autographed it for me.  I don't remember the price but it was in the mid 20's or mid 30's.
