I finally got it home saturday. I got it from a really good guy in New Albany, In. The EF4 tornado missed his place just 5 miles to the north. I have the parts book that is in four languages but I need the operators manual. Also the knives seem to be sloppy on the spring loaded pins. Are they the wrong blades? Like some of you said, the blades are easy to replace. Forgot to mention it's a Deutz- Allis. Thanks, Nick

I got an operator's manual from AGCO a year or so ago for $6 plus freight. The freight was higher than the book. Hard to understand though. The blades don't fit tight on the pins but I had a pin that wore through and tossed the blade once. I like the machine but if a bearing goes out on the crossover shaft (square tube at front above disc bed) it's a bear to replace cause you really have to tear the machine apart to get at it. Mine's apart right now. It looks like grease goes in that tube but the book doesn't mention it that I can tell. There was none in mine. Allis-Chalmers would never have designed it that way. Mine's an SM70 and will out cut my cousin's near new AGCO Hesston.

I have the vermeer version of the same machine I think,and the blades on mine are sloppy also. When the cutterbar reaches full RPM,the blades will straighten out and when it slows down right before stopping,you can hear them kinda rattling. Mine has a drum on each end with discs between them and I also have the spring loaded blade pins. Mine uses DM303 and DM304 blades that I get from tisco. They are very reasonably priced and very easy to change. Mine has been a good machine. Probably cut several thousand acres since I bought it in 1986 Good luck with your mower !!!!!

Thanks guys. The blades in it were the wrong ones. I got the correct ones today at the nearest AGCO dealer (20 miles) and they have a smaller whole. They are checking on a book. Would rather get one from one of you guys. I will take the curtains off and get them replaced. An Amish guy nearby who builds tarps also has a heavier material that he uses to replace mower curtains. I have a GEHL discbine that I cut alfalfa with. Hard to imagine the allis will cut any better but I really like the simplicity of the allis and it is a foot wider but still has 7 discs like the GEHL. I guess the discs are wider. Haven't checked that. Any maintenance tips I need to be aware of? Ky. Allis, where are you at in Ky.? I may have asked you already but overlook that, I'm getting better or worse about that.Thanks to all. Nick

NickT--I'm in Nicholasville. It's a small redneck town about 15 mi. south of Lexington. Lots of windshield farmers here that loaf at Hardees or Mcdonalds every morning to tell tall tales and lies. I'm NOT one of them. I don't leave the farm much. Sounds like you got yourself a good mower. Good luck with it !!!!!

I remember now. I told you about a Montgomery guy I know. Not the singer. Thanks, I hope it will be a good one. I have to admit, sometimes I go to Hardees or McDonalds. I prefer Hardees. I'm in E-town-Hardin co.
