I have a 301 out of a 7000 ac. I have been wondering if there was any way you could build a 301 ac  where it would run well in a pick up. I would think that it would probably get great fuel economy. Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject?

My Dad a long time ago had a 301 turbo out of a combine put in a 79 GMC 1 ton truck. I was 10 yrs old at the time and  the truck had 500 miles on it when the 454 came out. Dad wanted a diesel period. Had the stock 4 speed and a 3 speed brownie and a hayes 2 disc clutch. front air bags and a 4 inch straight pipe on the right side of the cab going straight up. Wish I knew where some photos were and what milage it got. That truck was down right cool. Thanks Darryl

It could be done. I want to someday put a 426 or a 301 in a ford pickup. Mileage would be great with both. Trick is to get the gearing right so that your rmps are around 1800 at 55.

Has been done, 433I works better in a 1/2 ton, you should use a 3/4 ton pickup for 301. Use a combine flywheel, Ford clutch and pressure plate will bolt right to it, will need to machine for pilot brg. I have a 433I {4 cyl 200 cu in } from F2 combine in 72 C10 Chevy.

Always wanted to install a 301 in a pickup just have not got around to trying yet. Darryl what color was your fathers truck? Reason i ask is one summer while helping dad at the shop a gentleman pulled in that needed a rear main seal installed in a late 70,s early 80,s GM 1 ton dually truck that had a 301 from a xt sitting between the fenders. Dad had recently hurt his back and didnt take the job on. It had to be around 1989 or 90, i was 11 or 12 at the time so i did not get a shot at doing the job. Seems like dad said there was some roller chain that worked bellcrank linkage for the clutch and something different in the transmission area. The owner just happened to drive by and see the Allis sign out front and figured we would have the parts to fix him up.

Truck was red and it was in WA. state. We pulled the engine out yrs later and put a 454 back in it and sold it later on. Also painted the truck blue later also.

Wasnt your dad that stopped at our shop then. The dually i had seen was painted gold. Kinda makes me wonder how many A-C repowered trucks had been out there on the road. If i did one of those repowers i would definately use a trans with overdrive or invest in a gear vendors unit. What Ford clutch pressure plate bolt to the flywheel? What bellhousing have been used in some of these swaps?
