Does this sound right or am i just cheep? Today we needed diesel in our XT190 Allis to do some work cleaning out our fence rows. I purchased 25.6 gallons of diesel for 100.00 dollars. Every President we end up with promise to do something about gas prices but they end up doing nothing. I dont know what the answer would be to this problem but i sure want everybodys knowledgable input on thi subject.    Thanks Everyone.                                       PS. I am very proud to own such a fuel efficient tractor such as the XT190 ALLIS CHALMERS.

Its called "follow the money trail".  They (Pols) are all getting paid off to look the other way.  Why do you think they are all millionaires?  Why would you spend millions to get a job that only pays a few hundred thou?  They DON'T care about the common man.  We need a revolution real quick.

I recently took a trip to Englad to visit family (wife's side) neat place to see anyways we paid $7.5 american for gas there has been high there for years.  Anyways what I was gettin at is I was noticing there cars don't have emission junk on them.  The fuel efficey of one car for example 05 model got 36 mpg town driving and it wasn't that small of a car and rode in a Skoda diesel model bigger car yet getting fuel milage down the highway in the 50's.  Any ways got home and research the emissions and shipping vehicles to the US price not as bad as I thought 1500 for open shipment and found out to register here have to pay some taxes and it has to meet emissions.  So our government wants to put junk on cars to get cleaner exhaust but burn more fuel.  And was reading in the farm show about why the vehicles in other countries are availble there but not here.  Ford has a ford Focus there that gets 67 mpg, speculation is that there is enough money exchange by the gov. and oil people that keeps these out our country.  And will not be available until demanded by the public.  Just think if all the farmers or trucking companys said we are parking our equipment this spring or fall due to high oil prices how that would affect our country and not just the oil companys.  My dad tells me stories when they were young, would dump milk to get better prices.  In another foreign country a few years ago farmers blocked roads with farm equipment to protest better prices.  I think the people still can have some controll if they would stick together.  Anyways don't get me started.

Guys from around here that have been working in ND hauling oil said the EPA stopped any further wells for now. They claimed that according to other company men that payolla is what will get the ball moving again. Donate to the local politicians then all the way up to Washington politicians and then the drilling will go forward. They all can see there is a lot on money to be made. My one big complaint is that all this oil is headed to the gulf and then the foreign market for China. I think any oil here should be kept as a top national security commodity not to be sold on the foreign market at all. We would have hundreds of years available to us then. But what do they care about national security. They want to stick their hands down your pants while at the same time leaving the borders almost wide open. It's all a big fat joke.

Not to get into a protracted non-tractor forum discussion here, but having 32 years in the oil and gas business worldwide, the little guy will always pay for these commodity price driven fuels, including the by-products (of which there are many).
There has never been a shortage of oil, never.
Canada has been our biggest import country for years, not the Middle East.
As for natural gas, we have over 130 years of proven reserves in the U.S., at our current consumption rate; it will take years to implement the infrastructure to effectively use our NatGas and guess what, by the time we get set up to use it on a large scale, we all will be paying the same (or more) than we currently are for transport fuels.
If you need any more proof that this "shell game" continues, ask yourself, your senator, your congressman and our president why the proposed Keystone XL pipeline will go from Canada to the Gulf?
It will be sold as a cash driven commodity and likely head overseas vs. utilizing it in the U.S.
In the name of our supposed "free market system", the boys upstairs still control the supply and demand, in the name of John Q. Public's "best interest".
Remember, your government knows what is best for you and Wall Street money rules the day . . . . . . .

How does the American Middle Class get scammed?  By politicians and Corporate American - big money is in cahoots together.

Type in GM or Ford European Diesel and examine what the MPG is for any of those cars. Those diesel are getting double what  the majority of our fleet is producing for MPG.   The Dems and Repubs. say we cant bring those cars in here because that don't meet Tier II Emmissions policies of the EPA.  All Congress and the President have to do is pass an Executive Order letting those cars in here immediately, and then add language to evolve stricter emission standards over time.  As an Engineer I get that discharge of sulpher and N02 is not good for the environment or for drinking water supplies, so I recommend we evolve the emission standards and reduce our consumption overall as we build toward a more sustainable future.  Allowing those vehicles here would do much for mobility and the economy and I hear no talk of this on either political front.

Government makes policies for their Agencies and the populace.  Why do we stand for cars that get half what the Europeans get?  The way I do my math is that if we have more efficient fleets of vehicles the less oil we import.   The less dependent we become the stronger we become as a Nation.

It galls me to see a govt. made of men that will watch veterans suffer with next to no heat in their houses, sick from cancer but we can't do anything about it.   See CBS news report from a couple nights ago.

As for me I am going to work toward producing my own biofuel cause the Govt. and Corporate American is only out for themselves period.

Time to rally boys!!!

While this post should be in the Politics section I'll put in my 2 cents worth. Crude oil prices don't really justify gas and deisel prices this high. China and Asia in general are using more oil while we're actually using less. I have a brother that lives  in Holland that pays about $8 a gallon but they haven't seen the increase we have, they've paid that for years. What's going on here is an artificial shortage of gas and diesel due to a lack of refining capacity. The oil companies have not added to refining capacity in years. and have closed some refineries without replacements. Why do we need a pipeline down to to Texas for Canadas oil sand? Why not build a refinery in Canada and make fuel there? We're actually pumping more American oil now than we were during the Bush administration and using less gasoline and the price keeps going up, I don't think politics has much to do with it.

Tax revenue is one of the reasons for not allowing the more fuel efficient cars into the United States of America.
These fuel tax revenues go to fund roads and other government programs.  Each gallon of fuel saved means less money the government will collect.
Some have proposed putting GPS systems in road vehicles to track their mileage and then bill them accordingly.
This technology will become necessary, should the electric car become numerous or if enough people brew up their own fuel.
It could be a situation where the revenuers will start looking for stills again.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is largely responsible for no new refineries being built.    Environmental regulations and the licensing process is not an easy or inexpensive task.  The EPA has strangled the refining industry.
Dave makes an excellent point about building a refinery in Canada.  It takes less horsepower to pump refined fuel in a pipeline than it does crude oil.  Also, refined fuel is less corrosive than raw crude thus the pipeline should last longer and greater payback per gallon of product shipped.
It would be great if the oil stayed here and did not go to China.  It makes more sense to have the oil pass through the Keystone pipeline to the Texas ports than to the west coast of Canada.  At least this way some jobs and other revenue will stay here in the U.S.A.  China will get the oil one way or another.  Better to get some of the pie than none.

Politicians, big oil companies and Wall Street speculators in charge.  What do you think is going to happen?

Our country shows all the signs of a historical collapse such as the Roman Empire and more recently the British Empire. With so many special interest groups such as corporations where it's all about 'mo money' regardless of the consequences, the greenies with 'a tree in every house' mentality, the 'I deserve more' groups because I'm of this race, and the 'Me' generations replacing the 'We' generations are any of you really surprised about any of this?

Politicians are suppose to do what their constituents elected them to do, in theory anyway. If we are ever able to rid ourselves of these self serving despots maybe we can revive what made this country great, 'We the People' with our independent spirit.

I spent 13 years in the oil industry, got out because I didnot want my name to be recognized as the one raping the US public.  Gasoline and Diesel fuel should be selling in the 2.00 per gallon range in the whole US today.  Anyont that tells you different or trys to convince you different is LYING to you or simply does not  know what they are talking about.

I think the only president that will help with the fuel prices is Ben Franklin.
Whenever he comes out you can get some fuel

I worked in the oil and gas industry in the 80's, what we thought should last our lifetime and our children's is gonna run out and sooner than expected.  The truth is you can drill everywhere but you won't always get anything but a "dry hole"; the easy to recover oil is all but gone in the US and if you want the remainder it is a drop in the proverbial bucket in comparison to which you can only recover around 50% of what is left in the ground.  What little oil is left is low grade where the refiners have to chemically alter the makeup of the oil to get fuels from it, this is a expensive and considerably time consuming process.

$4, $5, $6 a gallon diesel is coming, and not for very long to come, this for the low to no tax farm fuel, at the same time road fuel will be over $7, this is not a scare but a notice as the fuel is running out worldwide and is mostly gone here.  We need to get long range trucks off the road, put the bulk stuff on rail car loads then distribute locally off the trains or we will run out ever faster.
