Well,
Tomorrow i am going to pick up a 190 with a knock in the engine. The fellow said the rest of the tractor is in pretty good shape, but does jump out of 4th gear.

I figure I can put it in the shop and just tear in to it, beings I have just finished putting a new power director in the 190XT I already have!

So, what do you figure an overhaul will cost, and what should i expect to do to fix the transmission? Who is your favorite parts supplier for this stuff?

Am i nuts?? what would you have paid for it?

I will post some pics tomorrow when i get home

Reed

whew!! that's a lot of questions!

Hey I'm nuts too.  I will retire in three years and I plan on doing exactly what you are doing.  I'd like to find a 180/190/190XT that is in fair shape and do the fix-up myself.  The fix might cost more than the value of the tractor.  So?  There are very few hobbies that are free.  This will be my hobby and I don't expect it to be free.

Good plan, then you will know what you have internally and work your way out. Hopefully seller sold with price point reflecting funds needed on your part to restore the machine. It is also very helpful in understanding how the tractor was built from factory, you will know it inside and out, good luck.

We are all nuts for spending the money on this equipment however the satisfaction is worth it.

I made it home.... empty handed.

I guess that still makes me nuts, drove 200 miles for nothing!!

The fellow had other guys that wanted it, and after looking at it closer, it was a bigger project than I want right now, so I let it pass.

Cap -- I ended up splitting the XT and re-building the power director. I got a set of disks from Tribco.

Well maybe that indicates you are not nuts after all.

I don't think you can be here any more

I figure my buying old AC's is wise investment.   Bought a B for $700,  invest about twice that much,  figure after I replace one more rear tire I can always sell it and recover my original $700 not a bad investment...   Tim

Hell I just bought a Allis 7G crawler, plan to retire in four years and won't even be done cleaning it up until then!!  It needs about everything but I bought it as a retirement project machine just to say I did rebuild it and could get a little more life/work from it.
