Subject: Snap Coupler Drawbar off of a B??

How hard is it to find one of these, I am looking at and probably already bought a nice wide front B, then noticed in the pictures it doesn't have the snap coupler drawbar, just the snap coupler bell.  I have heard these might be hard to find?

Your thoughts?

Sorry but you will not find one unless you make one, AC did not make a snap coupler draw bar for the B.

Might be real hard to find since Allis didn't make one that I am aware of. To use the drawbar, you remove the SC bell and turn the drawbar around.
I don't know why you couldn't get a CA SC drawbarand make it work. You might have to extend it and make a clamp to hold it in place.

I also believe you have the full setup. I'm sure someone who positively knos will chime in after seeing this post. Good find. Don't let it get away.

PS: I believe Michael Crowe has collected all the parts now including a late model B that he is fixing to set up.

Just another pic.

So what do you all think this should be worth? Stuck engine.  I am curious if I am about to overpay?  According to the serial number it is a early 1953 model.  It has a distributor, but the serial number puts it ahead of the distributor break in Norms book, was that an option?  Also it does look like the SC release and bracket are missing.  :-(  Oh well, guess I am not that lucky? :-)

I see the braces that go from the foot bar down to the drawbar, but what about the flat bar diagonals that go from the final drive up to the rockshaft bearings?  They shouldn't be hard to make, but might be a bargaining point.  The tractor itself looks to be pretty decent.

Actually I thought it was long gone too, then the other day he called me and asked me about "an older Allis with Allis Chalmers cast into the radiator" that peaked my interest, sent me some photos, turned out to be the U, I posted about a few days ago, and we ended up buying both of them.  He said he hadn't sold the B yet, so we worked out a deal on both of them, now I just have to pick them and my other two items up.  At least they are all in a line from Wichita to Oklahoma City.

The WD and WD45 lifts are completely different than this setup, I suppose one could make one work, but it would be a lot of fabricating.

The hardest part of making the Snap Coupler B are these : The SC bell hanger, the drawbar pivots, and the lift arms. There are several other parts, but these are the most time consuming.  It can be done, but to reproduce them like originals will cost money. HTH Tracy Martin

If you know where to look, it is not impossible.

It is just that they are not out there behind every tree in the fencerow. Seems there has been quite a few show up recently in the Carolinas....
