OK, not a genius but only half as stupid.

For months this site has been giving me fits using Internet Explorer. Site was slower than all get out and starting about three weeks ago I couldn't get on at all, just get error messages. Switched to Firefox (which I hate) and could get on??? Tried Google Chrome and could get on but I don't like supporting Al Gore. This was same at home and at work, two different operating systems and two different firewalls. Had some time to mes around it it at work today and discovered that there was a different address stored in IE favorites than in Firefox, both had worked before and not been changed, at least by me.
This is the link that works slow or not at all   http://www.allischalmers.com/new/forum" rel="nofollow - http://www.allischalmers.com/new/forum
This is the one that works as it should.   http://www.allischalmers.com/forum" rel="nofollow - http://www.allischalmers.com/forum

Old link has been in this computer since the new forum came on line. The one that works has was saved when I downloaded Firefox sometime last summer.

Who knows what why or whatever. Just hope this helps a few that said they were/are having same problems.

Butch (computer guru OH)

Butch, mine at home and work, had the same problem Sunday. My Hannah ( IT) guru fixed it. Tracy Martin

Hey Butch,  Thanks for the info.  I have been having a terrible time getting on today.  In fact I had visiions of the forum being discontinued.  However, I went to Google and Allis Chalmers and got on this way..
Your letters will help a lot.
Hope this finds you well.
Good Luck!

I couldn't get on by going to my homepage but when I clicked on the email links it worked. Only took me about an hour to figure out I had to change the link:)

I have had trouble getting on the last two days as well. I finally got on by the back door so to speak. I went to Tony's Tractors site and then went to his links and clicked on the unofficial allis site and it worked.

If you are have trouble with explorer or the computer start up is getting slower then you remember,  you should get registry clean up program.  I use norton utilities.  it allows you to clean the registry on your computer and the programs that automatically start when you turn on your computer.
two things happen with a program like windows or any other multi tasking operating system when you install and delete programs little pieces can be left. This will help if this is happening.
Second every program now, wants to run automatic updates, they are started when you turn on your computer. Having several on at once slows your computer. If it is downloading the update while your on the internet, its worse.
Just did mine again and had two google update programs running and I've never used google chrome.
It is well worth the money.  Computers are like tractors, the more you use them the more clogged they get (dirt/grease--programing) they need to be cleaned to make sure they are running smoothly
(I do realize the problem you had was a link address but thought I'd offer this as you had mentioned trying different programs) and fire fox does tend to be a memory hog

Hey Redwood thanks for the tips. I am running a registry repair program at home and at work they have a real guru taking care of things. This problem was only with this site and logging on and going dead slow once I could get on but again, never confuse me with a being a 'puter expert. I had been using that same link from my favorites since day one of the new Forum several years ago.

I just thought I'd mention as it is the one thing that tends not to get done.  Most will buy a new computer when they really don't need to yet.
I'm no expert either and also like tractors just grew up with them. I can figure my way through most things....but no expert, and use the common tecnical terms like "dohicky" and "that there thingy"

the link change seems do have affect many from the postings I see.

Usually a site will have an "Alias" file it will reference and allow you to go on the site even with the incorrect name.  Apparently that file got tossed or lossed!

Yep, I had to create a new desktop icon with a different link.  Not sure what happened.  But believe it or not, I got here by using the old forum link and it got me to the discussion page.  Once that happened I just copied the new address and got a new icon.

Butch, maybe you just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night... LMAO.

Favorites? I go to the forum click on tools and set my homepage to the forum. Whenever I click on Mozilla, it goes to the forum. I have Google Chrome also and that haomepage is set for my gmail. No desktop Icons to mess with and fewer clicks to get hereLOLClap
