The bidder asking if pickup at the GOTO in Hutchinson is possible is a little late.

Getting one made is OK ,But if you are a die hard collector ,aftermarket just is not the same as original.

You cant tell a difference in them, friend had a smaller one wind damaged . the one about 2 ft by 8ft . It was an original, insurance covered it. regional sign company came and installed new bulbs and 2 new sides and gave a 5 year service plan for around $2500.

Montevideo is only 1 hr 18 minutes from Hutch. If I were spending that much on the sign, I doubt I would be quibbling over a minor detail like the precise location of the 2012 GOTO.... If I were not buying the sign, or could not afford the sign, I might focus on that kind of detail.

here is our lighted sign. What was nice is we got the factory posts to go with it. Be nice to find the smaller sign that went below with the dealers name on it.

I think quite a few of us would buy repro signs if someone made them at fair price and high quality. As originals are scarce! And demand today is more then the supply :)
They should clearly marked and sold as a reproduction with date made etc. and could should be a little different then original. Same could be done for a few other items Like copy's of old signs, posters & banners. Originals will always be sought after by serious collectors and bring more dollars! I know I have brought a few rare items in poor condition just to have one. And later found-got a better or even a new one later on. And then sold one in poor condition or used for trading. I plan on having a couple signs made for us, just as soon as I can find original to get measurements and good pictures of them.

I've found that in one of my other areas that I collect that having knock-offs really hurt the price of the originals. Even though everyone can tell the fake from the original, just having them out there flooding the market hurt the value.

Looks like you need to find a sign maker to get your family name on the dealership sign:)

In 1987 when J & L equipment in Ferndale WA. went out of business I got there sign just like this one, I hung it in the shop where it still is. By the way it cost me a fifty dollar bill, not a bad investment.

Along the same line as Chris just stated, what I will never ever figure out is why someone would bid more than once on any given auction item. There were 38 bids and 11 bidders. In a way it's good for the seller but the buyers are just running each other up for no reason. When I bid, I put in a bid with less than 10 seconds left, if I get it great, if I don't then better luck next time. Generally if I want it I will get it because I don't try to pinch pennies on something of value and it's really annoying to see 2 morons nickel and diming each other for 7 days but it's hilarious to outbid them in the last 10 seconds. Sorry, just had to rant.

Regarding the bidding, if I get the shot at opening bid on something I think I can realisitically get, I will usually throw a low one out, hoping to discourage someone else from bidding. Then I wait until the end to snipe it manually if I still have a shot at it.
