It's fun to hear that some of the 816's are still working. I have one right now as well and I own it for the third time right now, somehow it makes its way back to me. It needs a little TLC and it'll be back in use soon. They are very good machines and powerful hydraulics. It will pick up the front of my dump truck with the tip of the cutting edge just under the bumper, that's 11000 lbs. My Case 680 H doesn't come anywhere close to a lift like that. In 1980 I bought my first backhoe, also an 816 (a different one), it became one of my best friends. One of the only few things I wish they had would be directional brakes, especially tricky when operating on snow and ice. Maybe one day I'll post some pictures.

there is  a brake kit that was put on them to give them directional brakes. Mine had the kit removed. It is a pain on ice when you can't brake the spinning wheel. Looking around for a newer machine. Will put the old 816 B up for sale on this web site when I find what I'm looking for. Found a payloader style with a back hoe on it.  Am trying to talk price with the guy.
