I said NO MORE TRACTORS, at least untill all the current ones are running. So far I've bought two already and we're only half way through February. LOL

This ones red and it's a piece of local history. The road commisioner traded our M and a 504 diesel utility tractor on a new CaseIH 95 horse with all the bells and whisles. Air conditioned cab, loader and fwa... but I digress.

I've always thought I should have an M. Several years ago I bought one for $500, rusty but straight, good tires, but the motor was stuck. I intended to overhaul and paint it but a guy came along and offered me $800 for it and I sold it.

So when I saw the township M setting at the dealer I stopped and it followed me home.

It's a 1947 model, pretty straight and has live hydraulics, the pump runs off the distributor drive
It has 15.5x38 tires & rims off a 560, with fluid and wheel weights. It was used to pull the wobble wheel roller and the road drag which is the reason for all the weight.
It has taillights and a flasher. It runs great and everything works. I'm told it had a Super M kit put in it. I'm 53 and I don't remember when the township didn't own it. I've been a trustee and now I'm the township supervisor so it has more meaning than just any M would. All I know is there isn't room for another tractor in the shed
There's a Massey 44, IHC M, Series I D17, 8050, 8070 and a 7060 in the picture. Plus a WD45, Bar grill D17, a couple riding mowers, a 15' batwing, a 27' field cultivator, a 16 row planter, 20" rotory hoe and a 4 bottom snap coupler plow in there and a few other items I'm forgetting.

that is a very good looking old m that appears to have been taken care of, i would get me a set of trail type 3x14s and go to plow day with it.
what did the township use that required the extra hyd tank, where the belt pully would normally be

I think that there are quite a few of us that have some other-than-orange in our sheds. WinkBesides all the orange and Allis green in my shed, you will find some Twin City, Hart Parr, Wallis, and a lone '30 Case C.

My Dad had a farmall M when I was growing up.  When I got a chance, I purchased my 1941 Farmall M.  No power steering, simple hydraulic unit in the clutch housing, 1 hydraulic outlet, pto, no 3pt, and a seat that will bounce you out of it if you hit a hole while running in road gear - 5th.  It does have electric start or it can be hand cranked.  The hand crank sits under the seat housing, but never falls off.  I love the way its engine sounds.  It's a great feed grinder tractor in the winter.  It always starts good and pulls even better.

Yes Shameless there's red in the shed. A 44 Massey, we traded ours in 1965 on our first XT, the M cause everybody had one when I was growing up and I got to run a lot of them. I'd like to have a JD 60 because I hauled hay every summer with the neighbors. I'd like a Minnie, my mothers side of the family had them. I'd like an Oliver 77, 88 or 770 maybe. A Case DC4 would be cool. I could go on all day, I've never found an old tractor I couldn't warm up to. That's besides the Orange stuff. LOL
Yes another toy box would be nice, unfortunatley I've got a couple more stuffed with stuff and one more will just encourage me.

The M has power steering that runs off the same pump. The belly pump is gone I would think you could put the hyd resivore in there but they used the external tank. I haven't looked at the plumbing but there are three control rods and valves but only two remote hoses that I can see. It needed two way hydraulics to run the drag.

I've got an IH model 60 3-16 plow it should pull if it has a Super M kit or a #8 3-14 if it doesn't.

Funny how the M and the Massey are smooth running 4 cylinders but the 45 and the D17 have such a different snappier sound.

I use that line about having other brands to remind me how much better Orange ones are, but truthfully, I wouldn't want to compare my 46 WC to this 47 M. Why didn't AC put foot brakes on the WC when they "styled" it? And why didn't the WC get aftermarket hydraulics like this? It looks like the pump on the M would work on it. I've seen M and H's from 38 or 39 that have had hydraulic added. The only WC you see with hydraulics are loader tractors. I guess the M is the example of why IH was the number one in tractor sales in that era.

I love my SMTA, we have owned it since 1982 and it still doesnt use any oil. I have an Oliver 3 14 drag plow I pull with it and there is just something about that old thing singing along with the plow or disk. Now don't get my wrong, I like hearing my 185 bark, but there is something about that farmall.

-------------
I have a 185 Allis, 6060 Allis, Model K gleaner, SMTA ferg 35, ferg 20 (paps first tractor, Allis B (wife's)John Deere 240 skid loader and a bunch of the usual farm stuff.

It's MY perspective that people should be allowed to purchase, own, and carry (either concealed or open) every and any brand, model, or type tractor they so choose, and should be encouraged to have a multitude ready at their disposal at any time, not only for their own purpose, but also for situations of society's need.  I also feel that keeping tractors out where they are regularly visible, and offering the opportunity to feel, hear, and even use another's tractor is not only good for everyone to experience, it also perpetuates the appreciation and respect for tractors and tractor history, and minimizes the likelyhood that non-tractor-owning populace would be suprised, offended, or uncomfortable with the presence of a tractor.  I'm fully supportive of having tractors for regular use, as well as for running and static display, and feel that having universal tolerance and respect for all tractors is important to good society, that understanding tractors and tractor history comes from studying the history and circumstances under which each tractor was developed, manufactured, and sold, and that understanding tractors is pivotal to understanding ourselves.  Finally, I believe that each and every tractor should have a home to call it's own.
