I have worked on Ross boxes on B's that needed very little help.  Now I'm into a G box and it needs all the help I can give it!  Was the input (worm) shaft cover shimmed to set the thrust bearing preload?  Was there ever a seal in the input cover neck?  I've straightened the bent shaft, polished the bearing races, replaced the balls on the upper end, and am ready to assemble.  I'm going to bore the input neck for a seal as I don't see how oil would not slop out.  The front wheels won't know how to act with no slop!!  Thanks in advance for any insight.

John,
The cover is shimmed for the bearing just like the B, in fact I think the gearbox is identical to the Ross B except for the length of the steering shaft.
I too cannot see why there is no seal in the shaft cover, as I can't fill the gearbox due to the gear oil runs out to that level.
