From the "Farm Implement News" magazine dated November 27, 1941--Column titled "Death's Harvest"  C.J. Hood--Charles J. Hood, 65, who recently retired as works manager of the Allis-Chalmers plant at LaPorte, Ind., died in a LaPorte hospital Nov. 10.  Death came after a short illness followed by a major operation.
Mr. Hood, a pioneer in the threshing machinery industry, had just completed 50 years of continious service with Allis-Chalmers and its predecessors, M. Rumely Co. and Advance-Rumely Co. of LaPorte.  His career began in May, 1891, when he was 14 years of age, in the separator shop of the M. Rumely co., and he often recalled the fact that his starting wage, as an apprentice, was 5 cents an hour.
Successively, he became foreman of the woodworking and assembly departments and assistant plant superintendent.  In 1916, under Advance-Rumely, he was promoted to the superintendency of the thresher plant.  In 1931, under Allis-Chalmers, he was appointed manager of the LaPorte  Works, a post shich he held until his retirement a few months ago."
This complete magazine came my way via materials from I.G. Hall Auction, and is complete except for a little mouse damage at one corner.  At one week before Pearl Harbor, the issue is full of news about shortages of raw materials and "upcoming world events!"

Really interesting, Thanks ! Sounds like Mr. Hood would have been the very first LaPorte Works Manager. And held that position for 10 years.
