Will a 66 combine handle the short stalk oil seed sunflowers? I have read where there is an attachment for high sunflowers but don't have one and don't want to try and track one down. Any tips would be appreciated.

Kind of off but my father inlaw had a 140 IH combine, to do sunflowers in the owners manual it says cut the flowers and feed into combine by hand, sounds kind of slow for hundreds of acres. lol

I have seen them picked with a corn head on a john deere 4400 combine, but I don't know if anything had to be modified.

Hope that helps,
Denis

As long as their dry and you can get them up the draper it should. The high lift header attachment is the only attachment listed in the Operators manual.

Can't answer your question, but I really enjoy this video of a 72 in sunflowers:

Thanks guys. The 72 looked good in the video. Those guide pans look easy enough to fabricate- in my free time between 1 and 5 am.  My wife is wanting to try a small plot . It could be an interesting project.

Used to raise sunflower, combined with C2 and then M2, had sunflower pans on both, was the way it was done, later years used a John Deere all crop head, the pans work good if the sunflower aren't full of bugs and breaking down, used to have 300 acres a year.
