Hello all.  I have the opportunity to buy a 1968 D-21 Series II in Ohio, PTO, 3-pt, decent sheetmetal, a full set of front and rear weights, tires around 40% all-around (24.4x32 on rear), just an overall decent original D21.  However, there's one is one problem: the owner claims that the clutch is " barely functioning" so in my mind it is out completely.  I'm not familiar enough with D21 clutch problems so I digress.  Were clutch issues common with Series IIs?  Is this an expensive fix or does anyone have so thoughts on it?  Also, how much would you pay for a D21 in this condition ~ $6k-8k or so?  Thanks!

Don't you feel kinda silly asking total strangers whether you should spend thousands of dollars of "your" money ???
 
Are you not capable of buying something "on your own" ???
Did you ask your wife, she's the one you had better worry about ????

The one that should feel "silly" would be yourself (no 3 or 4 question marks needed).

I'm not married and I value the opinions of those people on this board that I have called upon on numerous occasions (albeit not recently).

So if you get a lemon you can blame someone else, go look at the tractor and make up your own mind, they cannot help you from a distance. I would say to you, if you like it, can afford it, buy that sucker, it can't be that bad.
 
By the way, wasn't trying to offend you, just trying to get you to think for yourself.....

clutch is not a huge deal. Any D21 is good property to own if you get afford the purchase price.

Why do you respond to posts like this? You did not answer any of the questions that were asked and offered a opinion that obviously isn't wanted.

I do not blame other people for my purchases.  I know exactly what this tractor was worth 2-3 years ago, but based on the current price for a D-21, I have no idea what it's worth. 

And I appreciate the advice, but it sure came across bad lol.  It's alright though.

Doesn't sound like a deal breaker to me.Probably need to resurface the flywheel and stick a disc and pressure plate in.Not a big job.Be a good time to stick a rear main seal in just for good measure. That wouldn't scare me off if the rest is decent. And NO! Clutch issues are not common in D21s. That would be an operator issue.
 
 The price range is what you are willing to pay.....how many this "good" are you going to run across? I'd look for a 210- 220 myself.Heavier rear end.
