i've finally gotten everything back together on the D17 IV on my leaky PD handle fix. i haven't fired it up yet, mainly due to o'reilly selling me the wrong hydraulic filter, but i do have 1 question. the 2 hydraulic lines inside the tranny that run to/through the inspection plate.....how will i know if those went back into the holes in the plate? once i start it, will i know right away? will it make lots of noise? will it not want to shift between hi/low/neutral? will it just be a guess and if it doesn't lock up, then i did it right?

Smear some grease on each one so they'll slide right in.....they have to fit....the cover won't fit up tight if they don't go in the holes.

the upper hose is stiff and won't move.....atleast with gentle pressure. but the lower will fall down with just a little tap. i can raise it back into place and it'll stay, but just a little nudge and it'll fall. that's why i was asking....if it does fall and doesn't get aligned with the plate, will i know once i start it. i guess i'll find out tomorrow when i try it out.

if all goes well, you boys better sell your oil stocks, sales will be going down.

If your PD light works it will most likely be on all the time if you missed a line in the cover. I hope all goes well and the light goes out for you.

I have a d-17 ser.3 that leaks on shaft where PD lever attaches. I bought new O rings for it a couple years ago,but have not replaced them yet. I have seen several posts on this subject in the past. Is it possible to replace them without removing the side cover? Seems like I remember someone posting that you could remove snap rings on each end and slide shaft out enough to change the O ring. If it make a difference my D-17 serial# is 66260. Thanks!!!! Steve in KY.

If it has a snap ring on left end of shaft you will not need to remove cover. Just don't go any more than enough to replace oring. MACK

well.....it starts, runs, goes between hi/low/neutral, and nothing odd happens.....so i guess it's done right. most importantly, no more leak.

now, for those 2 nasty bolt heads i broke off taking the side cover off.....any suggestions? the bolt-outs from sears just aren't doing it.

It's too late for this now Skip. Next time do as I did when I pulled the second frame rail from my 45 Hi Crop. Sprayed those bolts with Kroil, early morning. Tokk a 3 lb. sledge and hit all bolts squarely one time that evening, hit with another shot of Kroil. Second morning, another rap and shot of Kroil. That evening, same thing. Third morning, another rap and shot of Kroil. Bolts came right out. On the first frame rail, I just gave them a shot of Kroil a couple days and three of the 4 bolts twisted off. Maybe the second side was always protected and weren't rusted. NOT Sure made a believer and happy camper out of me. It was not fun drilling out and retapping those three holes.
