Where do I run the coil wire to?  coil to 3 position switch.  I bought a new 3 position switch (steiner) and am wondering how to do this.  This is a 6volt system.  Also how do I wire in my push/pull on and off ignition switch?  the wiring diagram in my book is for a magneto.  Help very much apprecited.

thanks

You'll need a different switch for the ignition coil. The magneto switch grounds the points to stop the engine. That WILL also stop the battery ignition engine, but will kill the coil and the battery if you leave it grounded. You need a switch that you pull to turn on and wire that between the ammeter load terminal and the coil supply terminal.

Would have to know more about the switch you bought. Is it a ign. switch or a light-charge switch?

Too bad they don't send a diagram with it. Steve at B&B will if you need it. The field windings hook to the 3 position switch so they go through the resistor when the switch is in, and are grounded when the switch is out. The lights connect so they are on when in the middle position. The coil MUST be wired to a separate ON OFF switch that has battery power to the other side. There is no direct connection from the coil to the 3 position switch.

There is a diagram on Stieners site for the 3 pole switch.

Awesome - with your explanation it kind of clicked.  I was missing the concept that the on/off switch needed power as well.  I guess the coil also needs power.  The switch I have will interupt flow to the coil. Thanks!!!!

Hook your OFF-ON switch to the generator side of the amp meter. 14 ga wire will be fine. Bob

When installing that 3 position switch, be careful that none of the wires touch the inside of the box. I don't carry that switch, I sell the OEM Delco switch that was the main stream switch during mass assembly. Many of our customer's told me about how that aftermarket switch does not fit well in some of the ammeter boxes and how their harnesses got shish-ka-bobbed because of that. When running a Battery ignition, its always good to use a regular Ignition switch to control power. This way you have a switch that is designed to handle the power chores without being to light of a switch to cause problems in the wiring system elsewhere......
