Is there a way to find out what model Zenith carb is on a 48 C without taking the carb off?

There is a tag on the carb, but I'd rather not take the carb off just to read the tag. (The tag is at the back, against the block.)

I tried that this morning. The tag is rather black with junk on it. I tried wiping it with a Q tip and some spray cleaner, but unsuccessful so far. I could try again tonight.

The tag is the only method I know of - but that's not saying much, because I haven't been working on these carbs my whole life. Clean off the tag well and try Texas B's suggestion.

Get something that eats paint - some of the good carb cleaner out of the bucket or paint remover or brake fluid - then steel wool wrapped around a small dowel. Gets you clean and a little shine on the high spots.

The B & C model Tractors shared the same carbs in most cases. Here's a few popular Zenith numbers that came on those particular model Tractors.
212845,212845-2,216937,224641,212844,212844-2, I've rebuilt most of em' and have the rebuild kits in stock for most AC applications. HTH
