Is it a direct swap to put a WD engine in a Styled WC or is there a conversion that must be done?

Pretty much, unless there needs to be a hole in the hood for a muffler.

Yep, there's a WC sitting in a fencerow nearby with a WD engine. Without actually having done the swap, it looked like it basically bolted right up.

201 engines in a WC and WD are identical. Bolts right up. A 226 from a WD45 bolts up just the same too. Like Dr. Allis said, unless you have to add a hole for the exhaust. WC manifolds were side exit and WD 's came out the top.....the manifolds are interchangeable too.

Side exhaust were normally found only on Distillate engines.  Not Gasoline models.
