Looking to convert 1949 G back to 6v positive ground. My grandfather bought this G new in 49. I have the 6v generator which likely needs rebuilt. What other parts will I need? Heres a list of ones I think I need.
6v coil
3 position light switch that controls charging rate
New wiring harness
6v battery
6v ammeter 30-30
Starter?

Any comments would be appreciated.

If your generator needs rebuilt, why not just convert it to a 12 volt ?

Amp meter doesn't care abut voltage only measures amps. you will need a 6 volt cutout relay or voltage regulator, starter if it works now will work on 6V or 12V,
If generator is good 12V now keep it , if you have to rebuild one it's the same for 6 or 12V but finding the 6 volt reg might be harder .
See if Steve at B&B who has adds on her has the wiring harness or the other things you need .

It has been modified to 12v with an alternator, was hoping to restore to original 6v setup. Plan to completely restore if I can find all the parts I need. Just got it started tonight. Hasnt been run in several years.
Thanks for the info on the cutout relay and that my starter should work.
