I'm going to look at an Allis D17 this weekend. I don't know the year or the series yet. The add says that it runs good and has a loader and 3 point hitch that both work. I'm looking to use this around my little farm mostly to unload hay. My question is there anything I should look for in the D17 to make sure its a good tractor so it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg if I decide to buy it? Thanks for any advice

Make sure the transmission does not jump out of gear going down hill (usually second or 3rd gear).  The brakes should grab good too.  Good back tires can be pricey too.

Check to see that the power director locks into both low and high.
And.....always look for any evidence of coolant in the oil.
