Can someone tell me what brake fluid goes into the master cylinders on a 1979 F2 Gleaner?  Is is some kind of hydraulic oil or DOT 3 brake fluid.    ~Thank you~

Maybe not the same, but I used DOT 3 brake fluid in the N6's. Always hated doing that job. Taking up the floor mat, and standing on your head to fill them.

Regular old DOT 3 fluid.

Your lucky if your brakes work in your F2!  Ours never seemed to work in any of ours (C2, L, L2, or our L3)!  Of coarse with the hydro you didn't really need them.

HMMM! My 78 F2 will lock either wheel. Pretty handy spinning around on one wheel opening up corn fields.

Have to agree, would be nice at times just like you said Steve!  I remember when we were picking corn with the C2, the rear end was so light with the corn head on that it would pick the back of the combine off the ground at times just pushing in the clutch!  Brakes would of made if even more fun!

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

My F has great brakes, sometimes too great when you see the ground coming up to meet you, you learn to put the head down real quick!

Has anyone ever used Non-detergent SAE 10 oil in the F2/F3 or have an opinion on that? I think that is what is called for in the 6000 series tractors and I'm pretty sure the Gleaner manuals don't specify a brake fluid. I'm thinking that SAE 10 oil might be easier on the paint and seals and maybe cheaper than DOT 3 brake fluid...
