Starting working on the main tractor last week.
Lined the Gas tank with POR 15 and painted the fenders and gas tank three weeks ago.
Clean up the tractor with Oven cleaner and power wash when as about 45 degrees last week a little cold.
Started to clean up the brakes completely stop with dirt and grease.
Relining the brakes,
The left side final needed a bearing in the outer axle this tactor has been narrowed up
had to cut the weld off the shaft so i could get the bearing off thank goodness for the a grinder and torch and press to get these apart.

Looks like you are coming along well.  Just a bit of advise (and perhaps you already know this) but be careful how and where you drive this rig as they can tip over fairly easily.  They are really unique though and you will have a great piece when it is completed.

Wonder how many years it took to build up that much "stuff" in the brakes?

I have one of these just picked it up.  Do you know why it is so narrow?  Bruce

We have 2 G's that are narrowed up. They were used around here (Indiana) to drill wheat in between the corn rows. My father did this with a new G in the 50"s. With the axles cut down they were able to drive down between 2 wide (38-40") rows of corn with a one  row wheat drill.

lbr & others; I met a guy at LaGrange, IN GOO (mid 90's ?) who formerly was an AC dealer in swOhio. He and a couple other dealers in tha area had a machinist-welder (guy or shop) modify a couple dozen G's as you describe. Wish I had made note of his name. We had two of those drills stored upstairs in grainery; unfortunately, they were scrapped years ago when Dad retired.  Herb

Just goes to show how versatile the G is. We widened them in our area but the strain on the axles caused problems. Never heard og narrowing them.
Good Luck!

Allen.

With my right shoulder joint scheduled for replacement  surgery I'm having the same problem cultivating.  That's why I have grandkids. They may be easier to find than good Gs with hydraulics!
