Has anybody tried to replace a 6 volt starter on a D14 for a 12 volt off of a D15? Wondered if starter drive is the same, same number of teeth or what my 6 volt has 10 teeth.

Compare ring gear tooth count on the AGCO pars site, should work, but I have never tried that interchange.

There are two different starter ring gears on the D14.I think there is about 10 or 11 tooth difference between them, I do think one is a 93 tooth though. HTH Tracy Martin

Without looking into all the details on the parts site, D-14, 149ci engine compared to D-15 149 ci engine verses D-15 160ci engine. Did the teeth number change with the tractor or the engine.

Dave, pretty sure it changed midstream on the D14. Early ones have the expensive ring gear. Later ones are cheaper quite a bit . HTH Tracy Martin

I think the change came when they changed to 12 volt. I know when I installed a new clutch in the d15, I thought that I would use a D14 flywheel, NO!! Bob

Is there a problem with the original starter? If you just want to go to 12 volts, you don't need to do anything with the starter. Just don't crank on it for long periods of time and it will last a long time.

When I got my D15 it had a 6 volt battery in it. That is how it was being used.
It turned over just like any 6 volt engine does. It had a 12 volt regulator on it, but I didn't know about the coil and genny so I changed them to to be sure. Bob

I have my D14 6 volt starter hooked up to 12. Really spins it around good!

The early 6 volt D14s had a 93 tooth flywheel gear and a 10 tooth starter gear. The late D14 12 volt tractors had a 116 tooth flywheel gear and a 9 tooth starter gear. Cannot interchange them. The 93 tooth gear sells for around $100.00 and the 116 tooth gear sells for around $40.00. Don't ask why the price difference.
