This tractor is a 1974 w/ 4cyl perkins diesel that Dad bought new, it has a CAV pump on it and it is leaking fuel at the cover gasket, dad bought a new gasket for it so I'am working trying to correct the problem, I have checked and cleaned all the edge's and put it all back together and that darn thing is still leaking around the cover mailto:S**$@*%% - S**$^@*%% now what any help would be great, is there anything a guy can use to correct this ?

You probably have a hair line crack in the cover.  They are bad for that.

I've only ever seen one cracked, but there can be some warpage in the top cover due to overtorquing in the past. the torque on the acorn nuts is only 45" lb. they can be a challenge to get sealed up.

Those pumps are prone to leaking by the o-rings on the control rods that are in the head. The o-rings tend to harden and leak with age. Thet are easy to replace, I have done several.

I have one that had been leaking at the shut-off shaft off and on for quite a few years. I found that if I don't push the knob all the way in (leave it 1/4" out) it wouldn't leak. Has been over a year now and still no leak. It has become a habit on all of my 170/175's now.
